"Portage?" Cordela imagined someone dumping hot oatmeal into the river to make it easier for barges to slide over the shallows.
"Teams of men and mules that can haul your craft along the shore and deposit it on the other side. I myself don't usually bring my barge all the way up unless I've got a special order or delivery to make."
